Sriracha sauce is a type of hot sauce made from a paste of chili peppers, garlic and seasonings that imparts a special zip to almost any dish. This iconic condiment purportedly originated in the town of Sri Racha, on the eastern coast of Thailand and has gained steadily in popularity with cooks, chefs and gourmet aficionados over the last two decades.
Sambal Olek is a flavorful Indonesian chili paste that adds depth of flavor to the Sesame Linguine… just a tablespoon or two to taste. Alternately you may sprinkle with crushed red chili flakes.
Grilled Marinated Tofu is delicious with a great ‘meaty’ texture. The key is to use super firm tofu, or a pressing technique and our richly flavorful marinade.
As you shop for this recipe look for fruit-sweetened organic BBQ sauce. Always read the label to avoid any animals products, such as honey or casein and chemical additives.
For really firm tofu that won’t fall apart on the grill, I always use super firm tofu, available at natural food grocers and Trader Joes in shrink wrapped packaging. It is really sturdy and has the best texture!

Scott Nicholson, Senior Vice President of Operations helped Cody plan the party for 100 guests in late October and it was an enormous success. Scott enlisted his staff to work the event, preparing Cody’s special customized menu, highlighting many of Veggie Grill’s greatest hits. Veggie Grill is a fast-growing quick casual vegan restaurant chain operating in California, Oregon and Washington, set to open its 29th location in Chicago.

Hanukkah, the winter festival of lights is celebrated by Jews around the world and begins this year when the first candle is lit at sunset on Saturday, December Twenty-Fourth.
An eight-day festival marked by the lighting of brightly colored candles commemorates the rededication of the Temple in ancient Jerusalem. The menorah is a candelabrum with nine branches in which a different candle is lit to mark each consecutive night, the primary ritual on Hanukkah.
The first candle, called the Shamus is taller than the rest and is used to light the remaining candles. One candle is lit the first night, two the second, three the third, and so on until all are lit on the eighth night.
The classic pineapple upside-down cake, glazed with pineapple rings and bright red maraschino cherries gained popularity in the early 20th century when canned pineapple was introduced. Tastes have changed over the last hundred years and canned pineapple dotted with uber adulterated maraschino cherries aren’t the kind of ingredients the health conscious cook would bake into a cake.
Upside-down style cakes can be crowned with just about any fresh fruit with delicious results. I like to use fruit that is a bit tart for the brown sugar topping and Granny Smith apples were the inspiration for this recipe. When in season, a pinwheel of nectarines, plums or fresh apricots or are all great choices and a sprinkling of blueberries is always a nice touch.
